ACC

ACC

The Accident Compensation Corporation (ACC) provides comprehensive, no-fault personal injury cover for all New Zealand residents and visitors to New Zealand.

When you see a specialist, your assessment is fully covered by ACC, as is any high-tech imaging (MRI scans, CT scans etc). Once you have decided to proceed with surgery, a further request has to be made to ACC to fund your surgery.

Ram will complete an Assessment Report and Treatment Plan (ARTP). For simple conditions, the approval will usually be through within 3-4 weeks. For more complicated assessments the processing time can be eight weeks.

Just because ACC have covered your initial injury and your specialist review, it does not mean that you will automatically get your surgery request approved. You will receive an approval or declination in the mail from ACC. If approved, you can simply contact the office to schedule your surgery.

If you are declined by ACC, you can either lodge an appeal against the ACC decision, use health insurance if you have it, self fund, or be referred to the public health system by your GP. If you would like Dr Chandru to help you decide which option is best for you feel free to book another appointment as ACC will fund one extra clinic visit even if you have been declined.

Please pay for your consultation at the time of your appointment, or within 7 days of the date on the invoice which will be emailed. Following your consultation, if you are proceeding to surgery an estimate will be emailed to you usually within 5 working days.  If you have not received an estimate within 10 working days, please contact us.  Once received, please contact your health insurance company for prior approval, and phone or email our rooms with the prior approval number.

The surgery date on your estimate is provisional only.  Once we receive your prior approval number, the surgery date will be confirmed with you, and if you are having surgery at Southern Cross Hospital we will send the hospital admission forms.  Please complete these and deliver, email, fax or post the completed forms to Southern Cross Hospital (details are in the information pack with the forms). Southern Cross Hospital require the completed forms at least 5 days prior to date of surgery.

If your surgery is performed at Southern Cross Hospital, you will receive separate invoices from your surgeon Mr Chandru, the anaesthetist, and the hospital.  Provided you have prior approval, please submit these invoices to your health insurance company, who will pay each provider directly.

If you are having surgery under local anaesthesia, the surgery will be performed in the minor procedure room theatre, 447 Papanui Road, and no hospital admission forms are required.

If your surgery was performed in the theatre at our rooms (local anaesthetic procedures only), you will receive one invoice which covers the total fee.  Provided you have prior approval, please submit this invoice to your health insurance company, who will pay us directly.

Please note: If our invoice remains outstanding for over 60 days, we require payment directly from you, as the onus is on you to ensure your health insurance company pays for your surgery.

Medical Certificate:

Mr Chandru does not provide medical certificates before surgery – please contact your GP clinic for this. Please let us know if you require a medical certificate following surgery.
