Fracture Clinic

The Dudley Creek Health Minor Injury Fracture Clinic offers prompt, specialist care for injuries to the hand, wrist, forearm, and elbow.

Led by experienced orthopaedic surgeons and hand therapists, we provide early assessment, conservative management, minor procedures, and, when needed, surgical intervention helping patients recover quickly.

Our clinic provides a convenient alternative for managing minor, non-critical injuries and outpatient follow-ups, ensuring patients with stable injuries receive early, safe, and expert treatment in a community setting.

Who can be referred?

Patients must meet all of the following criteria:

  • Aged between 16 and 65 years

  • Currently working (full-time, part-time, or casual)

  • Have an ACC claim registered and approved

  • Clear and definitive mechanism of injury

  • Injury sustained within the last 6 weeks

  • Injury isolated to the hand, wrist, forearm, or elbow

  • Closed injury

  • Medically stable and appropriate for outpatient management

  • Basic imaging (e.g., X-ray) completed prior to referral

What injuries we treat?

Injuries we treat

 

We manage isolated, stable injuries, including:

Fractures (Closed and Stable):
  • Tuft fractures

  • Mallet finger (soft tissue or bony)

  • Central slip injuries

  • Volar plate injuries

  • Collateral ligament injuries (finger/thumb)

  • Thumb UCL (ulnar collateral ligament)

  • Closed fracture dislocation of PIPJ

  • Scaphoid or scapholunate ligament injuries

  • Distal radius or ulna fractures (minimally displaced)

  • Distal biceps insertion injuries (elbow)

  • Simple forearm fractures

  • Radial head fractures

  • Simple elbow fractures

Dislocations (Reduced):
  • Finger joints (PIP, DIP) with or without minor associated fracture

  • Wrist joint (post-reduction)

Ligament and Soft Tissue Injuries:
  • Suspected ligamentous injuries of the wrist

  • Sprains or strains managed conservatively

  • Post-traumatic swelling without fracture

Injuries we do not accept

Please refer directly to hospital Emergency Department if:

  • Open or compound fractures

  • Neurovascular compromise

  • Grossly unstable fractures requiring immediate care

  • Polytrauma or multiple injuries

  • Crush injuries or amputations

  • Tendon injuries (open or closed flexor tendon injuries)

  • Infected or contaminated wounds

  • Burns or high-pressure injection injuries

  • Vascular Injury

  • Pediatric patients (under 16 years old)
