Wrist Conditions

Wrist Arthroscopy

Arthroscopy is a surgical procedure used to diagnose and treat problems inside a joint. Arthroscopy utilises a small fibre optic instrument called an arthroscope that enables the surgeon to see inside the joint without making large incisions into the muscle and tissue.

Distal Radius Malunion

Distal radius malunion is the result of a previously fractured distal radius poorly healing and being lined up incorrectly. It can cause pain or swelling in the wrist and reduced range of movement.

Carpal Tunnel

Carpal tunnel syndrome is caused by the large median nerve being squashed between the tendons in the carpal tunnel and the thick ligament forming the roof of the tunnel over the top of it. The squashing of the nerve reduces the blood flow around the nerve, which causes pins and needles.

Scaphoid Non-union

Scaphoid Non-Union is the result of a previously fractured scaphoid not healing due to various reasons. It can cause pain or swelling along the thumb-side of the wrist.

Ulnocarpal Abutment

Ulnocarpal Abutment causes damage to the Triangular Fibrocartilagenous Cartilage Complex (TFCC) and joint cartilage. The TFCC sits on the end of the ulna bone and normally has two roles.

Wrist Arthritis – Fusion

The human wrist is a complex structure that allows delicate, controlled movement and so is necessary for many daily activities. The wrist is a complex structure of eight bones lying between the two forearm bones and the five hand bones.
